2404 / cabane

When visiting the Villa Medici, one is immediately astonished by the patrimonial architecture. Yet beyond the image of this frozen monument, the villa continues to function as a cultural academy, inviting artists and researchers to develop their practices.

Cabane is a proposition of a temporary structure that aims to put the everyday memories of such individuals and collectives at the forefront. Located in the garden of the Villa, the proposal uses acrylic panels with photos from the archives of the Villa Medicis directly transferred onto them as roof panels. Supported by a set of walls and a raised platform both made of recycled wood, the assembled roof structure is placed in a diagonal manner, creating an intimate space underneath. Visitors are invited either to walk around, stay underneath the roof or simply look at it, making their own constructed memory of the place while having various views of the Villa in the background.
